Padron 1964 Anniversary Series

  • Maker/origin: Produced by Padron Cigars (family-owned, José Orlando Padron family), made in Nicaragua; released to commemorate Padron’s 30th anniversary (1964 batch).
  • Wrapper/blend: Available in Natural (sun-grown Colorado claro/belicoso tones) and Maduro (1974 Maduro—dark, oily) wrappers. Blend uses aged Nicaraguan tobaccos (long-aged filler and binder; Padron ages many years before use).
  • Strength/body: Medium–full to full-bodied — rich and substantial but remarkably smooth for its strength because of extensive aging.
  • Flavor profile: Complex, well-balanced notes of cocoa/dark chocolate, espresso, espresso crema, toasted nuts, cedar, leather, sweet cocoa nibs, subtle spice (white/black pepper), and nuances of earthy tobacco and caramel or honey sweetness; Maduro leans sweeter and darker (molasses, dark chocolate), Natural shows brighter cocoa and nuttier notes.
  • Construction/appearance: Box-pressed (square-pressed) profile, tight even roll, oily to satin wrapper surface (Maduro darker/oily), excellent draw, consistent burn, long ash, and good smoke production.
  • Sizes/common vitolas: Offered in multiple box-pressed vitolas (Lancero, Petit Corona, Robusto, Toro, Churchill, Presidente, etc.); robusto and toro are common favorites.
  • Typical smoking experience: Smooth, refined, and balanced from start to finish with evolving layers — often starts with coffee/cocoa and light spice, develops richer chocolate and leather mid-smoke, and finishes creamy with a lingering, slightly sweet earthiness.
  • Awards/reputation: Highly regarded and frequently rated among top cigars; noted for consistency and quality control.
  • Pairings: Espresso, dark roasts, aged rum, cognac, single malt scotch (sherried or bourbon-cask), or full-bodied coffee desserts.
